Tormented to his death

POLICE and council officials were condemned by a coroner yesterday after a harmless man was tormented to death following a vicious hate campaign spanning 30 YEARS.

Tragic David Askew, who had learning difficulties, collapsed with a heart attack as he confronted yobs outside his home.

The 64-year-old had been bullied by THREE generations of feral youths who cruelly nicknamed him Dopey Dave.

His worried mum Rose called cops 88 times, but senior officers deemed the problem "low priority" — saying Mr Askew was partly to blame for giving his tormentors cigarettes to go away.

And neighbourhood manager Mark Tunstall, who was in charge of community safety, never visited Mr Askew — even though his office was just 400 YARDS away.       More Read
