A murder inquiry has been launched after the death of a pensioner who was hit by his own car as he tried to stop it being stolen.

James Simpson, 76, was killed outside his home in Ashgill, near Larkhall, South Lanarkshire.

Police believe whoever took his Land Rover Discovery may have attempted to get into the house first to get the keys.

Mr Simpson, who was at home with his wife, went out to confront the thief and was run over.

The black 57 plate Discovery was later found intact around five miles away in Crossford.    More Read
