Chief Commissioner Ken Lay demands clean-cut cops

SHORT back and sides will be the rule for cops on the beat in the new year.

The force's new Chief Commissioner Ken Lay issued all members strict guidelines yesterday on the new appearance standards, starting on January 1, which bans wild hair, long sideburns, piercing and jewellery.
An edict on visible tattoos is still being reviewed.

Police are preparing to roll out a New York-style darker uniform to update their image next year.

The new rules will be strictly enforced with police given until the end of the month to conform.

Will the new look demand greater respect? Have your say below

Police can wear watches and engagement and wedding rings, but banned are earrings, spacers, facial and body piercings.     More Read
