BLADES concealed in umbrellas, brass knuckles and even pirated DVDs - these are just a handful of items seized by Customs officers.
But laser pointers worry our border protection officials most, with hundreds coming in to the country disguised as anything from a pen to a car accessory.
More than 36,000 illegal lasers were located by Customs and Australian Federal Police officers over the past 12 months, making it one of the most confiscated items coming in to the country.
Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor said this figure included the detection of "lightsaber" laser pointers, which were capable of emitting a 1000 milliwatt laser beam that could instantly blind someone and set their skin on fire. Read Full
