Bananas are cheaper than chips as prices fall again

BANANAS had become so expensive they were considered a luxury. 
 
Now, after months of paying up to $15/kg, consumers can snag a bunch for less than $2.

Cyclone Yasi wiped out 75 per cent of Australia's northern Queensland banana farms in February.

Now supermarkets are slashing prices to as low as $1.95/kg - far cheaper than a kilogram of hot chips, which cost up to $13.50 at the same weight.

Cheap bananas are on sale at ALDI ($1.95 a kilogram) IGA ($1.99/kg), $2.98 at Woolworths and BI-LO and $2.99 at Coles.
