Schoolies kick off celebrations

THE annual schoolies pilgrimage kicked off today, as thousands of school leavers descended on Rottnest and Dunsborough to celebrate enmasse. 
 
Up to 10,000 Year 12 students have joined festivities at the two hotspots, while smaller contingents of revellers are heading to Mandurah and Lancelin.

At Rottnest, police deployed sniffer dogs and searched luggage at the main jetty as about 1500 teenagers arrived on ferries ready to party.

That number will be one less after police evicted a 17-year-old from Rottnest for being under the influence of alcohol, giving a false name and abusing island staff. The youth was asked to leave the island at 4pm    Read More
