Revealed: how PM would steady the nation in a terrorist attack

"I ASK the people of Australia at this time to remain calm. We should not allow terrorism to impact upon the way of life we value so highly."

If terrorists strike in an Australian city, this may well be what Julia Gillard, or whoever follows her as prime minister, may say.

"I wish to reassure Australians that all of Australia's governments, police forces, emergency services, security and intelligence agencies are doing all they can to prevent further attacks and help those who have been affected.

''Safeguarding the community from further terrorist attack is the Australian government's highest priority."
