Egg donors could get £750 for helping childless couples

WOMEN could soon be paid £750 to donate their eggs to childless couples, it was yesterday revealed.

They proposals have been backed by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.

The fertility watchdog also wants male sperm donors to receive payments of £35.

The move is a bid to halt a donor crisis which sees many desperate couples forced overseas to obtain eggs and sperm for their IVF treatment.

The shortage follows a change in the law in 2005, when donor anonymity was dropped. The move meant children of egg and sperm donors could track them down — and put off thousands of prospective donors.  More Read
