Hurt Locker lawsuit: soldier must pay $187,000

Sgt Jeffrey Sarver, the Iraq war veteran who lost his case against the makers of The Hurt Locker, has been ordered to pay $187,000 for the legal fees of the director, writer, producers and distributor of the war drama, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Sarver, who claimed his time as a bomb disposal expert formed the basis of Jeremy Renner's character in Kathryn Bigelow's film, must pay $38,000 for the legal costs of Bigelow and Nicholas Boal, the writer whose Oscar-winning script was inspired by his time with Sarver's unit in Iraq. The other costs, a result of a piece of California legislation that grants the defendants the right to have their legal fees paid for by the losing plaintiff, include $90,000 for the film's producers and $59,000 for studio Summit Entertainment.         Read Here
