Several Occupy Seattle protesters, including an 84-year-old woman,
were doused with pepper spray by the police on Tuesday night, as my
colleague Jess Bidgood reports.
The Seattle Police Department did not responded to a request for comment, but a spokesman for the force, Detective Jeff Kappel, defended the use of the chemical agent in a written statement. “Pepper spray was deployed only against subjects who were either refusing a lawful order to disperse or engaging in assaultive behavior toward officers,” Detective Kappel wrote.
