Alert over Christmas internet scams

FRAUD-busters last night warned Brits poised to spend £8billion on Christmas over the web to protect their money like never before.

"Mega" Monday in two days' time marks the official start of the festive spending frenzy.

Experts believe £7.75billion will be spent over the web or via smartphones — up 14 per cent on 2010. But a new campaign warns shoppers they face unprecedented threats from crooks.

And the National Fraud Authority told Cashflow last night that 37 per cent of adults have been hit by fraud over the web so far this year. For young men it's a staggering 74 per cent as they forget to use anti-virus software on PCs.
