Winson Green prison in alert after keys lost

A PRISON went into lockdown with every lag confined to their cell for almost 24 hours after vital keys went missing.

The set, which unlocked most of the jail's entrances with one key fitting every cell door, vanished on Tuesday.

They were believed to have been hidden by a disgruntled employee at Birmingham's Winson Green jail, which was taken over by security firm G4S on October 1.

A prison officer said inmates had been kept in the dark about the emergency in case it led to trouble. The keys were eventually found.    More
