Save the Murray . . . but not until next year

THE plan to save the River Murray won't be ready until at least September next year, a Senate inquiry has heard. 
 
That's almost two years after the doomed first draft was released.

And while a draft plan is expected next month, the implementation guide on how water will be restored to the river won't be released until later next year.

Yesterday Liberal Senator Simon Birmingham warned the Murray Darling Basin Authority it could provoke another backlash to its plan.

Its first draft had to be pulled days after it was released in October last year after an irrigator backlash over fears they would be forced to give up water.   Read More
