PRIME Minister Julia Gillard will today announce a dramatic backdown on a government ban on sales of uranium to India. Ms Gillard will appeal to ALP members at the party's federal conference next month to support uranium exports to India, four years after Labor reversed a similar coalition policy.
It puts Ms Gillard at odds with the statements of her predecessor, Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd, who last month said India could buy uranium elsewhere.
Labor MPs who have supported the government's previous ban are expected to get behind the Prime Minister. More Read
