Vortex gun firing rings of electrically-charged gas at 90mph 'could be used to clear smoke-filled hallways for firemen'

A vortex gun which can fire doughnut-shaped rings of electrically charged gas could be by firefighters to clear hallways clogged with smoke.

The gun fires rings which revolve as they travel but, like the eye of a hurricane, remain calm within the interior, allowing them to carry a payload of electrically charged air.

The charge makes particles of smoke clump up and fall from the air like rain droplets, says a spokesman for Battelle, the Ohio-based company which has developed the technology.      More Read
