A desperate husband reported a
fictional 'mugging' to police in a bid to avoid the blame for losing
more than £1,700 of his wife’s
money.
Alex Jones had been helping his wife out with her work as a cash collector, but then left the money in a bag on top of his car.
Desperate to cover up his mistake - and save his wife's job - Jones dashed into a post office and told staff he had been robbed in the street.
