Gold was creamed... by milk

MILK has recorded the biggest price rise of a traded commodity in 2011 — beating GOLD.

The white stuff has soared by more than 40 per cent on rising demand around the world.

Gold, a traditional haven for investors, managed only eight per cent.

Experts put the surge down to the growing taste for milk products in emerging markets in the East. China is the world's biggest buyer of milk powder.

Milk futures hit $19.07 for 100lb in November — the highest price for four years.      Read More
