THE Northern Territory Coroner will hold a new inquest into the death
of Azaria Chamberlain, who disappeared from her parents' tent at Ayers
Rock in 1980, in what is likely to be the final attempt to establish
what happened.
The coroner, Elizabeth Morris, said she was reopening the
inquiry “largely in relation to information provided by your [the
Chamberlains'] counsel about dingo attacks since the death of Azaria.”
The information is understood to include an account of
attacks by dingoes on children at Fraser Island in Queensland, which
included a fatal attack by two dingoes on a nine-year-old boy in 2001.
Ms Morris notified Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, living in
Western Australia, and her former husband, Michael, that the inquest
would open on February 24 next year.
