Immoral Mum of youngest casualty slams 'cut' Heroes' pay freeze...as benefits rise 5%

THE mother of the youngest British soldier to die in Afghanistan branded the Government "immoral" last night for hitting our heroes in the pocket.

Lucy Aldridge, 43, spoke out as it emerged soldiers on basic salaries will miss out on £1,300 a year because of a one per cent cap on public sector wages.

Yet at the same time benefits are set to rise by 5.2 per cent.

Lucy said: "It is disgraceful to even consider capping the pay of soldiers already seriously underpaid for the work they do. It is immoral.

"We have to fight for the rights of our soldiers because, although they lay their lives on the line for us, they are not allowed to strike. That makes them very different to other public sector workers."

Lucy's son Will, of Hereford, was just 18 years and 47 days old when he was killed by a Taliban bomb in Helmand Province in July 2009.      Read More
