'I just can't stand the pain any longer. Sorry': Pensioner's agonising toothache drives him to fatal overdose

A man was in so much agony from a toothache that he took an overdose of anti-depressants because he could no longer stand the pain, an inquest was told.

Allan Wightman was found dead at his home in Bingley, West Yorkshire, after concerned neighbours alerted police, Bradford Coroner's Court heard.

When officers broke in through the back door they found the 67-year-old's body on the floor and a note, which read: 'I just can't stand the pain any longer. Sorry. Allan.'

Along with the note, police also discovered empty tablet packets and beer cans in the bin.

The hearing was told how Mr Wightman had been to see his dentist of 20 years complaining of a swelling in his mouth which would not go away.     More
