EU hit women drivers

DANGEROUS boy racers are to see their car insurance premiums cut by nearly £200 a year under a potty EU ruling — while young women will have to pay up to £400 MORE.

Barmy lawmakers in Brussels have banned insurance companies from using a driver's gender to calculate rates — claiming it is sexist and breaches legislation on equality.

It means women's charges will soar, while they will fall for men, with under-25s most affected.

Treasury estimates released yesterday show Brits will have to pay a total of around £300million more in motor insurance.

The premium changes must be brought in by December next year.

Treasury financial secretary Mark Hoban said: "While nobody should be treated unfairly because of their gender, financial services providers should be allowed to make sensible decisions based on analysis of risk.    Read More
