Early man shed his fur AFTER we first 'stood up' - when we found racing around on two feet was far too hot

Two of the puzzles about early man are why we lost our fur - and why we started running about on two feet.

One of them, at least, appears to have been solved.

Previously scientists have speculated that man first 'stood up' as a means of keeping cooler.

But a new computer model suggests that it was the other way round - standing up would have made us hotter.

It seems early humans stood up, and then lost our hair as we realised how hot it was running around on two feet.

Previous research hadn't taken into account how much a hairy biped would heat up while running around - and assumed early man would have been standing still.      Read Full
