St. Joseph’s Health Centre is moving its neonatal wing into a new
building that will have more capacity in February – a move expert say
will help ease the demand for beds in Toronto’s west end.
Plans for the $73-million expansion include doubling the birth and labour rooms to 16, and expanding the neonatal intensive care unit from 12 to 20 beds, said Trish Crawford, the administrative program director for St. Joseph’s women, children and family health program.
“These extra beds should help support Mississauga and other west-end hospitals,” Ms. Crawford said. “The population growth is just exploding there and if we can expand our care to take on more patients, we can alleviate some of the pressure in those areas.” More
