NHS wasters buy grub from China

HOSPITALS are wasting millions by importing food from Thailand and China.

Costs would be slashed by making patients' meals from UK produce, a study reveals.

One NHS trust dished up meals containing fish shipped to China from another Far Eastern country to be de-boned before being sent to Britain.

Other caterers served chicken imported from Thailand — leaving a huge carbon footprint.

And vegetables are being needlessly shipped or flown in from the rest of Europe.

But Nottingham City Hospital saved £6million a year using mainly UK-produced food.     Read More
