8-year-old wins gold in SEA games

Malaysia's Aaliyah Yoong became the youngest champion in Southeast Asian (SEA) Games history when she won the women's waterski tricks gold medal in Palembang Thursday. 

The eight-year-old beat six others in the final. All of them were at least twice her age, and included her elder half-sister Phillipa Yoong, 33, who was third.

Meanwhile, Singapore's Gold No.16 arrived from a rookie who left his goggles and cap behind. Number 17 was from a champion who never forgot how to win.

Together, Teo Zhen Ren and Tao Li ended Singapore's SEA Games swimming campaign on the sweetest of notes, winning two more golds last night as the Republic rubber-stamped its reputation as the region's top nation in the pool.    Read Full
