ANIMAL welfare groups have criticised a review of Australia's $1
billion live export industry for stopping short of recommending
compulsory stunning of animals before slaughter.
Instead, the review, headed by a former Australian ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer, recommended action to encourage greater use of stunning.
The Agriculture Minister, Joe Ludwig, said the government had accepted all 14 of Mr Farmer's recommendations.
Mr Ludwig suspended all live exports to Indonesia and
ordered the review after graphic footage of cattle being abused in
Indonesian abattoirs was shown on the ABC program Four Corners in May. Full Read
