Hobart park closed off after baby's body found

THE body of a baby girl found in a park at Kingston in Hobart may have been dead for a month, police have said.

Detectives from Hobart CIB arrived at the park off Hawthorn Drive, in Kingston, about 11.30am but said it is too early to say how the infant died.

Police confirmed the dead infant was discovered by a Kingston Council worker performing general maintenance in the park.

Witnesses have reported seeing a body on the ground that had been covered by a sheet or tarpaulin.
Police said the baby had died up to a month ago.

The body was found near a bin and was covered by bushes. The umbilical cord was found with the body, but no clothing was found with the body.    Read Full
