Claims that bats are roosting in Dale Farm caravans brought demolition at the Essex travellers' site to a partial halt today.
Basildon Council has been forced to stop the bulldozers after a wildlife officer spotted bat droppings in one of the static homes, meaning the creatures could be roosting in the roof.
Wildlife experts will now examine two caravans and until their findings are published, the homes cannot be touched. More Read
