Sixth victim of the inferno: Parents prepare to turn off life support of boy, 13, terribly injured in the blaze which killed five of his siblings

The parents who lost five children in a house fire today made the heart-breaking decision to turn off the life-support machine that has been keeping a sixth child alive.

Michael and Mairead Philpott accepted doctors' opinions that their son Duwayne, 13, would not survive the injuries he suffered in the fire that had already claimed the lives of five of of his brothers and sisters.


Mr and Mrs Philpott gave their permission to allow their son to die naturally before returning to the house, in Allenton, Derby, where well-wishers had left hundreds of cards, flowers, teddy bears and candles.

The couple stood with police, calmly taking in the scene.

It was also where neighbours and members of the local community had gathered in a candlelit vigil to remember the young victims and release Chinese lanterns into the air.                 Read Here
