Revellers braved the rain to
celebrate May Day in Oxford today but were thwarted in their efforts to
make the city's traditional bridge jump.
Around 4,000 people flocked to the banks of the River Cherwell for the annual springtime celebrations but the few who tried to leap from the famous Magdalen Bridge found themselves hauled back by burly security guards.
Barriers had been placed along the bridge to deter any potential jumpers from climbing onto the parapets of the centuries-old bridge and throwing themselves into the water below.
The three revellers who had attempted to jump from the bridge were all foiled by security guards hired by Oxford City Council. More Read
