Airports scrap passport ‘queue-cutting’ plans

TWO airports have scrapped high-tech eye scanners designed to reduce passport queues, it emerged last night. 

Critics say the Iris Recognition Immigration System has ADDED to delays.

Manchester and Birmingham airport have axed Iris, which has been closed to new applicants since last year.

The system will remain in use for registered passengers at some Heathrow and Gatwick terminals until after summer's Olympics and Paralympics.
