24 dead as Egyptians demand end to military rule

VIOLENT clashes between protesters and police erupted for a third day in Egypt yesterday as the death toll from the violence rose to 24.

Some 1,750 people have been wounded since clashes first broke out on Saturday.

Police used tear gas against swelling crowds in Tahrir Square, the symbolic centre of January's uprising that swept hated leader Hosni Mubarak from power in February.

Stone-throwing crowds demanded armed forces chiefs set a date for the handover of power to an elected government.     More Read
