Sleeping drunks, loved-up couples and unwanted eyes on your newspaper: Evocative pictures of the 1940s New York subway taken by a young Stanley Kubrick shows just how little the city has changed

It’s an iconic image of New York and now the city’s subway has earned itself a spot in a museum exhibition of photography, documenting the work of some of Manhattan’s most famed personalities. 


Stanley Kubrick set out as a staff photographer for LOOK Magazine in 1946 to capture the story of New York City’s subway commuters.

The resulting pictures show real life on the underground and have formed  part of a Museum of the City of New York display entitled Willing To Be Lucky: Ambitious New Yorkers in the Pages of LOOK Magazine.         Full Read
